I have actually completed the model (vs leaving a review on shipping speed).
I liked the model it took me a few sessions of a few hours to finish it (maybe 8-10 hours total?). You can complete it with what’s included but I also used an xacto knife and some less toxic glue than what arrived with the kit.
It of course doesn’t move or look like the AI augmented version advertised, but I didn’t expect it to. Nearly everything punches out of printed wood sheets, printing and cutting quality are very good. Be careful punching the pieces through some of the smaller or thinner ones are fragile. There are duplicates of some of these pieces. I only broke one piece, it was a railing (no duplicate) but I glued it together and when finished glued some greenery over the crack.
Wiring is no trouble and I like the effect at the end.
The instructions at the end are a little tough to follow only because the model is dark (so pictures are dark) and small.
My big complaint, and not a deal breaker at all I still really liked the set but also not expected is that it’s sort of Harry Potter themed, which, meh. I was rather excited about generic witch theme. There are a few very shiny paper cutouts of hw’s stuff (robe, scarf which are cheap and I left out) & the school seal is printed on the floor, there are acceptance letters, a white owl and the multi direction sign in front has HP locations on it.
In all, good kit! I love the satisfying snap when the wood pieces go together. The finished product is cute and runs on a power cable (not batteries) - and I love that the instructions specify areas where patience is required! lol
Some pieces were a little tricky as they were so small but just took my time and everything turned out beautifully. It’s great that you get everything you need in the kit to complete it. It was very relaxing to do and it’s made me want to carry on and make more tiny rooms.
It was a lot of fun putting this together. The materials are high quality and the finished Lantern House was very sturdy - and beautiful! I have already ordered two more kits.
Just a few comments. I am still in the process of putting it together. Like the numbered boards (A, B, C) but wish that all pieces for one section were on the same punch out board. Some notches (tabs)were very hard to fit into their holes. I had to use a small hammer to make sure they were firmly in place. Occasionally the printed paper on the small tab would peel back when putting it in the hole and I had to glue in back down. There were no instructions on how to cut and paste the book pages in place, but I did my best guess. The light wire instructions are very vague. I could use an expanded wiring picture. But I am proceeding carefully with each step and hope it comes out okay. Will take pictures when complete.
I built this in a single day. I was pretty straightforward. The only problem was that the roof didn't fit properly, but I easily fixed it with my Dremel Tool! I think this is a great kit!
I really enjoy working on these tiny projects. They're genuinely challenging, but at the same time, very relaxing to work on. Sort of like creative meditation.
Absolutely loved building this. My second miniature store. Instructions are straight forward and it was a pleasant challenge to get everything in place. If you love miniatures.. this is for you.
One thing I would recommend is the mini hammer/tappers as sometimes it can be a bit of a bugger to make sure the lines are aligned.. so the hammer can just a tap them into place so everything aligns. Tweezers are a must.. there are also little sets you can purchase.. these are great for placing fiddly teeny pieces.
I think I have developed a bug for these little shop /show settings.. I love them ❤️
The colors are warm rather than plastic looking, and there's a real sense of depth when you look into it, like you're peering into somewhere that exists. Building it was calm and steady, and the finish is neat enough that it looks store bought.
Enjoyable to work on because the quality is consistent throughout, right down to the tiniest parts. It feels solid when you handle it and it looks like something you'd buy finished rather than build yourself.
Sturdier than I expected for something this small. I've moved house since building it and it travelled fine with no repairs needed. It's back on the shelf looking exactly as good as it did before.
The lighting element is done well, tucked away so you don't see wires, and it's still working perfectly after weeks of being switched on every evening. Looks beautiful once the room is dim.
Two months on and it's held up perfectly. Nothing has drooped, peeled or come unstuck, and the colours haven't faded on the shelf. It still looks the same as the day I finished it.
The build quality genuinely surprised me. Solid joins, no wobble, and once it was assembled I could pick the whole thing up and move it without anything shifting or coming loose.
ou can tell the materials are good the moment you open the bags. The wood has a proper weight to it and the printed pieces are sharp rather than blurry, so the detail holds up even when you look at it close.
First hobby in years that's stuck. The building hours are the calmest part of my week and I've now cleared a whole shelf because they look so good lined up together.
Nice slow build over a few evenings and a lovely thing to have on the desk at work. It makes that corner of the room feel warmer, especially in the afternoon when the light hits it.
I've built a few of these now and this was the most enjoyable one to assemble, a good balance of fiddly and satisfying. The finished piece has more texture and depth than I expected from the photos.
